The non-profit Peaceful Space Project is a U.S. based Global Leadership and Community Development Program. The focus of PSP is the education and development of youth and the mitigation of conflict through a heightened sense of community. This blog is dedicated to discussions about the Prime Directive of the Human Species and the underlying and obvious messages in the Letters to U: From the Mysterious Dr. M - The Handbook On Being Human, vol. I - 10 Selfish and Unselfish Reasons For You To Create Peaceful Space. This blog invites you to share your comments, thoughts, reactions, suggestions, and other positive contributions to a productive and purposeful discussion. You can preview the Prime Directive and The Handbook On Being Human, vol. I (here).
A good place to start our discussion may be with your comments on the Prime Directive. As a unifying and guiding philosophy for the human species, the language of the Prime Directive must promote the concepts of interconnectedness, interrelatedness, and interdependence. The language must call humanity to rise above our national, ethnic, racial, political, and other cultural divisions to address the needs of all humanity and the welfare of the planet. The language also needs to speak to the matter of individual responsibility and choice. What do you think? Can you agree with or accept the Prime Directive as written?

Wow, what a compelling thought. As the meaning washes over my intellect, I feel(remember) so many questions of my life. What am I here for? How do I make my way in this world and feel good about it? And the questions go on and with each one a distinct memory or experience that challenged me to stay my course. So many times turning away from the pain and suffering only to strike out again, determined to make something of my life and to help others in need. Creating Peaceful Space and the "Prime Directive" is a powerful and simple solution. More than an attempt to answer a question, it is a clear path to achieving what we all long for and the means to challenge the obstacles in our way. Not focused on force or power, but on inner peace, shared benefit, and creating peaceful space for our social interactions. If all could move themselves in the direction of the Prime Directive, I think we could make significant social change and move towards living a life that is fulfilling, rewarding, and meaningful. To feel good about our lives, to leave behind a better place for those to come is to live a life worthy of the human species and it's potential. I look forward to more development and thoughts on this subject. What do you think?
Yes! Individual choice for both selfish and unselfish reasons. Dr. M. makes it clear that each individual choosing to follow the Prime Directive and choosing to Create Peaceful Space is the key. To do that each individual has to know what their choice-set looks like. That is why Dr. M. and the Enia wrote the Handbook On Being Human, vol. I. Thanks for starting what I believe is a very important dialogue.
I enjoyed reading the prior dialogues on the importance of choosing to follow the Prime Directive! I look forward to adding to this important topic of discussion. :-)
As regards to the language of interconnectedness, interrelatedness, and interdependence, I believe that it needs to be included in the language of the Prime Directive as each are linked to the present worldview of being in a Quantum Universe as reviewed/referenced in the Handbook (111, 225). As I understand it, within this universal environment, life and everything that exists and occurs in it are energy and energy processes thereby interconnected, interrelated, and interdependent. Just as physics, chemistry, and electronics obey the laws of physical energy; non-physical energy such as emotions, thoughts, and behaviors obey the laws of the human Quantum universe.
I also agree that the language of the Prime Directive “must call humanity to rise above our national, ethnic, racial, political, and other cultural divisions to address the needs of all humanity and the welfare of the planet. This call is necessary as the operational or mechanical part of the quantum universe, [Quantum mechanics(QM)] is pushing the envelope of human consciousness to a whole new level as thought by a growing body of scientists, philosophers, historians, behavioral scientists, and spiritual leaders (i.e., Howard Bloom, Ken Wilber, Barbara Hubbard, Don Beck, Chris Cowan, Robert Kegan, Robert Wright, Melinda Davis, to Andrew Cohen). This worldview is a major shift in human thinking and of consciousness development. For instance, QM gives a whole new understanding of human relations as compared to the past mechanical worldview of Newtonian physics. This worldview was segregated, compartmentalized, and classified human groups, differentiating them by visible markers such as class, race, and gender. Within this worldview it was easy to justify slavery, the annihilation of indigenous populations, and the oppression of women, and even find divine sanctions for such action. In contrast, QM brings to the fore how we are all part of an integrated whole, distinct but one human family at the same time. Hence, we are interdependent, interconnected, and integrated, such that there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male or female, but one” human family. I like how Dr. M brings this point to the fore when he states: “quantum reality is an undivided whole with unlimited creative potential”. (pg. 11).
Regarding whether the language also needs to speak to the matter of individual responsibility and choice, I believe that it needs to address the idea of creating universal peaceful space through ‘Self-Determined Evolution’. Dr M states that this is the “progression and enhancement of the physical and mental capacities of our species through the agency of thought”. (pg. 137). Just as life is the product of relationships (as mentioned prior), an individual’s consciousness is more than the sum total of the various levels of the ‘great nest of being’. The whole of individuality transcends the whole of body, mind, and spirit, resulting in a spiritual experience of interconnectedness within the Quantum Universe. I like how Dr. M brings this point out when he states that “quanta can form into ensembles (groupings) and these ensembles can overlap into entanglements through which information can be exchanged” and that “quanta field of energy responds to the energy of thought”. (pg. 112). Additionally, American born physicist Bohm(1992) comments on this 'thoughtful' type of energy writing: “What I mean by 'thought' is the whole thing - thought, felt, the body, the whole society sharing thoughts - it's all one process”.

What thoughtful comments you've made from your reading of the Handbook. Thanks for your research contribution as well. The Prime Directive is the quintessential expression of the Handbook On Being Human, vol I. The Prime Directive is meant to be succinct in its wording. Each of the three parts of the Prime Directive are in fact statements of the three universal principles of Interrelatedness, Interconnectedness, and Interdependence. Interrelatedness is the underlying reason for the directive to seek pleasure and avoid pain for yourself and others. The directive to transform negative energy into positive energy through your conduct in the world emerges from the principle of interconnectedness and from an understanding of the energetic power of human presence in the world. And the principle of interdependence calls forth the directive to nurture life and struggle against death for the welfare of the planet and the coexistence of all living things. Dr. M. and the Enia say that the energy signature of Peaceful Space emerges as each individual choose to follow the Prime Directive. Create Peaceful Space!
